By gum, I think I have a favourite sweater designer! This might sound odd to those with taste or those who know what their taste is. But up to now my evaluation of knitting patterns has consisted of answering the following questions:
1. Does it look itchy?
2. Does it look tight?
3. Does it look tight and itchy?
4. Do I have access to the appropriate yarn or a reasonable substitution?
If the answers to these questions are no, no, no and yes, it goes into the "maybe I'll make this some day" pile, never to been seen or thought of again.
But three times recently I have found sweaters in Interweave that merit serious consideration. First was the Apres Ski Hoodie from sometime last year. There are two more in the Spring '09 issue: the Soap Bubble Wrap and the Silk Cocoon Cardigan. And darned if they weren't all designed by the same person, one Connie Chang Chinchio. Does this mean that I have, like, gained some kind of sophistication? That I now have some kind of sense of style?
You have no idea how this possibility excites me. In honour of the occasion I may have to burn my 20-year-old Adidas sweatshirt.
