knitting for me and mine

It has been a tough year and I've decided to give myself a break. I've said this before but I mean it this time. I'm going to knit what I please and take a break from charity knitting.

The year started with my youngest daughter freshly out of the hospital, followed by my father's cancer diagnosis and subsequent death. Through all of this I have been beating myself up over not producing enough charity items. In August I started to knit ferociously trying to make up for last time and ended up with tendinitis in my shoulder. And now I have a corner of my bedroom stacked with unfinished projects and a heap of unfulfilled promises to my kids because I feel guilty if I'm not knitting for charity.

This is dumb.

Now that the shoulder is on the mend I have resumed work on the Anniversary Mystery Shawl. I also intend to start the Halloween shawl at the end of the month. I still have the Adamas for older daughter on the go as well as Flowing River from last year. I have two first socks buried in the heap somewhere and I have promised younger daughter a Wallaby and sister a scarf. Until further notice these will be my projects of note.

In that spirit, I had knit this guy for charity, but when older daughter fell instantly in love with him I gave him to her instead.

And with any luck this very blog will be a little less snore-inducing as there will be a whole lot less garter stitch in my life.
